Hot Springs and Rope Swings

La Fortuna and the Arenal volcano area are overflowing with resorts and tour companies. The reviews that I have heard of almost every service have been excellent. I’m not really inot taking tours though. For one reason, I’m cheap. For another, they’re lame. Since I have access to a 4 wheel drive vehicle, I decided that it would be best to drive around and see what happens. After a bit of exploring we came across a bunch of cars on the side of the road across from a resort. The cars looked like they belonged to locals and it dawned on me that driving around and looking for bunches of cars belonging to locals would be a brilliant strategy. We walked down a long path and eventually came to a river. Then I thought I saw smoke (see pictures). Then realised, that it was a geothermally heated river. Just down from the hot springs that cost $35 per person per day. Free! They were so bad ass. It was incredibly relaxing and the rapids provided some much needed therapeutic massage.

After the hot springs it was time to go check out the rope swing that we spotted on the side of the road on the way into town. It was really fun. Much higher than it looks. After a bit of swimming and cliff jumping and rope swinging it was time to head back to the hostel for a delicious beer.

  1. Wow. Finally a day where no one tried to hustle you. Some people be scammin’.

  2. Don’t tell Matt, but I think Obama forged his birth certificate from Hawaii.

    • Matt already knows…..but Gabe might cry.

  3. Ha! That was Gabe signed in as me. Punk. Glad you’re having fun!
