La Fortuna

The drive from San Jose to La Fortuna was surprisingly easy and not so surprisingly beautiful. Driving through the cloud forrest and countryside is truly incredible. After a few hours we made it La Fortuna. Although quite touristy, it’s a very cool town. The town sits at the base of the Arenal volcano, which is incredibly beautiful. The hostel is right across from the volcano and though it does not have much of a view, it does have some pretty nice facilities.

The only negative thing that has happened in La Fortuna was at the “Lava Lounge Bar and Restaurant.” After the waitress dropped off our food and never came back to the table, I gave her almost double the charges in Colones and she said, “do you need any change.” “Yes, I need change.” I don’t typically tip 90% for terrible service, especially in a country where you are not expected to tip at all. She shorted me on the change. I caught it immediately, but was so tired that I opted not to say anything. In San Jose a gas station attendant also tried to charge me a price that was similar to the number of leaders instead of the number of colones. I also caught that immediately and got cash back.
