More Montezuma

The first thing I did in Montezuma was the waterfall. The first evening we went to “the one bar” and had a pretty good time. We hung out with Berent (sp?), James of Califorinia, and Kate of Dublin whom we had met at the waterfall earlier. It was pretty hilarious to watch the interactions between the locals and the tourists. It was reggae night, so the dj was actually playing some pretty decent music. Watching one old local man in particular do his little dance was a real joy. Before the bar, I had the best Calimari that I’ve ever had in my life at Coco Lores. I think that’s how you spell it. Anyway, if you are ever in Montezuma eat there for sure. It’s amazing. Almost every other restaurant in that town is good too, but Coco is amazing. However, it’s also the only place in town where there is a pretty good chance you will have to wait for a table…but it’s worth it.

The next morning it was time to dive Tortuga Island with our dive master Fabio. I’m not kidding. That’s his real name. I couldn’t help but think of the “Are you for scuba?” scene in whatever that Ben Stiller movie was called. So we got on the boat and cruised out to the islands. Did some snorkeling and saw a ton of different species and some really rad coral. After a little snorkeling we dropped off the snorkel people and the 4 of us who would be diving headed to a spot called “the aquarium.” The aquarium was an amazing dive. Lobster, eels, puffer fish, countless varieties of tropical fish, and a school of yellow tail. I wish I would have had a spear! After the dive they took us back to the island and fed us. Then we snorkeled again. Then we took a very rough ride back in. I was properly medicated, so there wasn’t any puking this time.

It was a pretty tiring day. So after a 3 hour dinner with the new friends at something Banana it was time to call it a day.
